No horror film is complete without a bloodcurdling scram. In fact, some actors’ careers have been made thanks to their ability to instill fear in audiences with one simple screech. But scary movies aren’t the only place you can find a memorable scream. With the fourth [and hopefully last] ‘’Scream’’ film now in theaters, let’s take a look back at some of the most famous screams in pop culture history.
Drew Barrymore
Role: Casey Becker in Scream
Drew Barrymore didn’t last vary long in this flick, but her memorable death at the opening of the film helped reignite her then-lukewarm career.
JANET LEIGH
Role: Lila crane in psycho oh, miss Lila crane. She thinks she can get away with stealing $40,000 from her employer, but little does she know she’s about to take her last shower. Vivian Leigh (with the help of Alfred Hitchcock, of course) terrified audiences with her guttural screaming as the crazed Norman bates knifed her in the most vulnerable location possible.
JAMIE LEE CURTIS
Role: Laurie Strode In Halloween
As an iconic scream queen early on in her career, Jamie lee Curtis lent her talented vocal cords to a number of horror films. Halloween was her first film, but her first film, but her natural talent led to slashers like Prom Night And Terror Train soon after. Clearly she inherited her pipes from her mom (Janet Leigh)!
HARRLY SHEARER
Role: Ned Flanders in the Simpson’s
Everyone knows that peace-loving need Flanders isn’t the toughest guy on the block, but his high-pitched scream it’s a squeal, really makes him sound like a downright sissy.
Naomi Watts
Role: Rachel Keller in the ring
So you pop in a mundane little videotape and then someone calls to tell you you’re going to die in seven days ? oh, and then some dead kid crawls out of the Tv and scares your boyfriend to death? Yeah, we’d be screaming bloody murder along with Naomi watts.
MACAULAY CULKIN
Role: Kevin McCallister in Home Alone
Little Macaulay Culkin’s moment of realization that being an adult stings became so iconic that it was plastered on posters, DVD covers and has been parodied to death by now. however, Daniel stern gets an honorable mention for the terribly unmanly shriek he emits when a spider lands on his face.
DONALD SUTHERLAND
Role: Matthew Bennell in Invasion of the body snatchers the 1978 remake of invasion of the body snatchers is 33 years old, but that alien scream still makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand straight up. Even though the gore is a bit dated, it’s hard not to feel terror when the hero of the film ends up as one of those screaming, pointing man-snatchers.
Michael and Janet Jackson
Role: Themselves in the thick of a serious sidling rivalry Michael and Janet Jackson in a video for scream Michael and Janet do a lot of posturing and a whole lot of eat drum- shattering screaming. It’s almost as if we can hear Michael going “Ahhhh!’’ right now. We’re guessing the ones who signed the final check to pay for this thing did a fair amount of screaming on their own.
ARIANA RICHARDS
Role: Lex Murphy in
Jurassic park
It’s no fun when your adventurous vacation to your grandmother’s dinosaur zoo turns into a mad dash for your life. Ariana Richards probably had to sip on green tea and honey for weeks just to calm her screamed-out vocal cords once jurassic park wrapped. Maybe that’s why she quit the biz and now works as a painter in Oregon?
David HEDISON
Role: Andre Delambre in
The Fly
Going from being a hand-some human to a disgusting man-fly isn’t am easy thing to deal with. when Mr. Delambre is being hunted in a spider’s wed, he can be heard screaming “help me’’ Thought he can only be heard Faintly by the human ear , the circumstances make it pretty clear he’s screaming for his life. His pretty wife Helene has an equally terrifying scream when she gazes upon her fly-like husband for the first time.
